A year in music season 5 is a great time to get into new and upcoming artists. This season provides a great opportunity to catch up on all the new music that has been released over the past year and to get a taste of what is to come in the next. There are a few artists that have really caught my attention this season, and I wanted to share them with you all.
Tame Impala is an Australian psychedelic rock band that has been making waves in the music scene over the past few years. They released their third album, Currents, in 2015 to critical acclaim and have been touring extensively since then. If you’re looking for some mind-bending, groove-inducing tunes, Tame Impala is definitely worth checking out.
Another artist that I’ve been really into lately is Halsey. She’s a young singer-songwriter from New Jersey who first gained attention with her 2014 song “Ghost.” Her debut album, Badlands, was released in 2015 to great reviews, and she’s currently touring the world in support of it. Halsey’s music is dark and atmospheric, and her lyrics are incredibly personal and honest. If you’re looking for something a little different, Halsey is definitely worth a listen.
Finally, I wanted to mention a few up-and-coming artists that I think are worth keeping an eye on. First is Mura Masa, a 19-year-old producer from the UK. He released his self-titled debut album in 2016, and it’s full of unique and interesting electronic tracks. Another artist to watch is Jorja Smith, a 20-year-old singer from the UK who is already making a name for herself with her soulful voice and powerful lyrics.
So, there you have it – a few of my favorite artists from this season of A Year in Music. If you’re looking for something new to listen to, I highly recommend checking out any of these artists. You won’t be disappointed.
The best of season 5
It’s hard to believe that it’s been five years since A Year in Music first premiered on PBS. The show has been a labor of love for everyone involved, and we’re so grateful to have been able to share our passion for music with all of you.
As we look back on the past five years, we wanted to take a moment to highlight some of our favorite moments from the show. From incredible live performances to touching interviews, there is so much to choose from. Here are just a few of our favorites:
One of our all-time favorite performances comes from season five, when legendary singer-songwriter Emmylou Harris stopped by the studio. Her performance of “Red Dirt Girl” was absolutely stunning, and her interview was just as insightful. She talked about her love of songwriting, her creative process, and her thoughts on the current state of the music industry. It was a truly special moment that we’ll never forget.
Another favorite moment from season five was when we had the chance to sit down with iconic musician Nile Rodgers. He talked about his early days as a session musician, his time with Chic, and his work with David Bowie, Madonna, and many others. He also performed a beautiful rendition of “We Are Family” with his band. It was an honor to have him on the show, and his interview was truly enlightening.
We also had the pleasure of interviewing legendary producer Quincy Jones in season five. He talked about his incredible career, working with Michael Jackson, and his thoughts on the current state of the music industry. It was a fascinating conversation, and we’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to speak with him.
These are just a few of our favorite moments from the past five years of A Year in Music. We’re so grateful to all of our guests, who have shared their time, their talents, and their stories with us. We’re also grateful to our viewers, who have supported us from the very beginning.

The worst of season 5
There’s no denying that season 5 of A Year in Music was a bit of a let-down.
After the hype of the previous seasons, it was clear that something was off from the get-go. The challenges were uninspired, the cast was uninteresting, and the overall energy of the show was just… meh.
But what exactly went wrong? Let’s take a look at the three worst aspects of season 5:
1. The challenges were uninspired
Remember when the challenges used to be epic and actually test the skills of the contestants? Yeah, those days are long gone.
This season’s challenges were either ridiculously easy (like the one where they had to write a song in an hour) or just downright silly (like the one where they had to perform in front of a group of toddlers).
What’s even the point of having challenges if they’re not going to be challenging?
2. The cast was uninteresting
Speaking of the cast, what happened there?
Gone are the days of strong personalities and interesting backstories. This season’s cast was made up of a bunch of interchangeable pretty faces with no real stand-out moments or personalities.
It’s a shame, because a show like this really needs a strong cast to keep things interesting.
3. The overall energy of the show was just… meh
This is probably the biggest problem with season 5. It just felt… flat.
There was no excitement, no sense of urgency, no real stakes. It was just a bunch of people going through the motions, week after week.
Even the finale, which is usually the most exciting part of the season, was a snooze-fest.
So, there you have it. The three worst aspects of season 5. Let’s just hope that season 6 is a vast improvement.

The most surprised of season 5
The most surprised of season 5 was the return of K-pop group BTS. The group had been on hiatus since early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But in November, they made their highly anticipated comeback with their album BE.
The album was a huge success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It was the first K-pop album to ever top the chart. BE was also a commercial success in South Korea, selling over 4 million copies in just two weeks.
BTS’s return was a pleasant surprise for fans who had been eagerly awaiting new music from the group. It was also a reminder of the group’s massive global popularity. BTS is one of the biggest K-pop groups in the world, and their return showed that they are still a force to be reckoned with.
The most disappointed of season 5
The most disappointed of season 5 was when it was revealed that Glee was planning to do a musical episode based on the popular movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This was extremely disappointing to fans because it seemed like the show was just jumping on the bandwagon of a popular movie, instead of coming up with something original. Additionally, the musical episode was not very good and was one of the lowest rated episodes of the season.

The fifth season of American Idol premiered on January 17, 2006, and concluded on May 24, 2006. Ryan Seacrest returned to host. The season was won by Taylor Hicks.
This season was unique in many ways. It was the first season where the finalists were chosen from auditions held in front of the judges, rather than by the producers. It was also the first season with a Top 12, rather than a Top 10.
The season was dominated by the females, with only two males making it to the Top 12. It was also the first season where both the winner and the runner-up were from the same state (Alabama).
The season featured a number of controversies, most notably the Save-a-Vixen scandal, in which it was revealed that the producers had rigged the vote in order to keep certain contestants in the competition.
Despite the controversies, the season was a ratings success, averaging more than 30 million viewers per week.

It’s that time of year again! The time when we look back at the past twelve months and reflect on all the good (and bad) that happened in the world of music. And, as always, there are plenty of both to go around.
Let’s start with the bad, shall we? Here are three of the worst music trends of season 5:
1. Mumble rap
Mumble rap is a subgenre of hip hop that is characterized by its unintelligible lyrics and lack of lyrical content. In other words, it’s music that sounds like a bunch of gibberish put together.
This trend reached its peak in 2016, with songs like Desiigner’s “Panda” and Lil Yachty’s “Broccoli” becoming mainstream hits. But thankfully, it seems to be dying down now.
2. Trap music
Trap music is a subgenre of hip hop that originated in the early 2000s in the southern United States. It is characterized by its heavy use of 808 drums, dark melodies, and violent lyrics.
While there are some good trap songs out there, the vast majority of it is just repetitive and boring. And unfortunately, it’s become one of the most popular genres in recent years.
3. SoundCloud rap
SoundCloud rap is a subgenre of hip hop that emerged on the online platform SoundCloud in the 2010s. It is characterized by its lo-fi production values, DIY aesthetic, and often drug- and violence-themed lyrics.
Some of the biggest names in this genre are Lil Peep, XXXTentacion, and Juice Wrld. And while there are some good songs coming out of this scene, a lot of it is just juvenile and cringeworthy.

The show underwent a number of changes from the fourth season. Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul returned as judges, while Ryan Seacrest continued to host the show.
There were a number of changes in the format of the show. The most significant change was the introduction of the “Wild Card” round, in which the judges could each select two eliminated contestants to bring back to compete for a spot in the top 12.
The other changes included the addition of a fifth judge, who would provide input on the performances but would not vote on who was eliminated, and the introduction of the “Save” button, which allowed the viewers to save one of the bottom two contestants from elimination.
The fifth season was won by Taylor Hicks.
